About the appg

The APPG on Pharmacy was formed in December 1999 to drive forward cross-party conversations on topical issues and their significance for pharmacy, patients and the NHS.

WHAT WE DO

Community pharmacists can dispense medication, deliver vaccinations, write prescriptions and consult on medication, to name just a few responsibilities. Above all, they are dependable and dedicated individuals who are excellent at providing medical knowledge and support for the communities that they work in.
— Taiwo Owatemi MP, Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Pharmacy Group

Public meetings

We hold regular public meetings with expert speakers, with an invited audience comprising health professionals, patient groups, government officials, industry representatives and the media.

Inquiry work

We undertake investigations into topical issues and invite expert speakers to explain their views to us. We prepare reports for Health Ministers containing our findings, views and recommendations for policy action, just as a select committee would do.

Ministers respond to our recommendations and we have previously positively influenced government policy over a number of issues through our work, including on emergency hormonal contraception, calling for more support for pharmacies during the pandemic, concordance, and wasted medicines, and the government’s response to the OFTs proposals on control of entry.
